Hydro Testing
Introduction
Pressurized cylinders
have ratings referred to as working pressures. A hydrostatic test or
hydro test is undergone by filling the different type of cylinder with
a liquid and putting it under 1 2/3 times the rated working pressure.
Pressure during the test causes expansion, which can be observed by a
technician to identify leaks or measure expansion. This make sure that
everything is within the allowable limits. Visual tests are also
completed to make sure that the cylinder isn’t damaged in any way.
Uses of Hydro Testing
Different types of
SCBAs or Self Contained Breathing Apparatuses are required to go
through hydrostatic testing for hydro testing to reduce the chance that
there is no damage.
